どんなツールを使うか？

日記にはObsidianというデスクトップアプリを使っている。ローカルのマークダウン編集ソフトで、そこそこ快適だ。使い方はここ数年愛用しているTyporaにかなり近いが、Scrapboxのようなタグ機能がついているのが特徴で、Obsidian内でノードグラフを見ることもできる。

ちょうどTyporaとScrapboxの中間のようなツールだろうか。Typoraは書き味が気に入っていたが、タグリンクできない点や検索に癖がある点が不満で、Scrapboxはタグリンクが張れるのはいいがオンラインでしか使えないことに馴染めず、使い込めずにいた。

Obsidianはデイリーノートも簡単に作成できるし、Templateの挿入や編集も楽だ。なのでここにデイリーでログを残していくのはありだなと思って色々試してみている。

ツールでアウトプットが変わってくる、というのは全ての分野に当てはまることだと最近強く思う。実力がある人はツールなんか何を使っても成果が出せる、なんてことは基本的にないと思っている。

音楽でさえ、楽器というツールの影響をかなり受けている。シンセがなかったら、Garagebandがなかったら、あの曲は生まれていない、という可能性が十分にある。

話が飛躍したが、ツールや道具（もっと言うとそれらを使う環境）の影響はすごい。最近、いつか楽器を作りたいと思ってるのも同じ理由だったりする。

For my journal, I use a desktop application called Obsidian. It’s a local markdown editor, and it’s quite comfortable. It is very similar to Typora, which I have been using for the past few years, but it has a tagging feature like Scrapbox, and you can view node graphs in Obsidian.

I liked the writing style of Typora, but I was dissatisfied with its lack of tag linking and quirks in search, and Scrapbox’s ability to link tags was nice, but I couldn’t get used to the fact that it could only be used online.

Obsidian makes it easy to create daily notes, and it’s easy to insert and edit templates. So I thought it might be a good idea to keep a daily log here, and I’ve been experimenting with it.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how tools can change your output, and I think this is true for all fields. I don’t think it’s true that talented people can get results no matter what tools they use.

Even music is heavily influenced by the tools of the instrument. If there were no synths or Garageband, there is a good chance that “the song” would not have been created.

This was a bit of a leap, but the influence of tools and instruments (and more importantly, the environment in which they are used) is incredible. It’s the same reason why I’ve been thinking of making a musical instrument someday.
